Artisto is an application for the artistic processing of video and photos based on neural network algorithms, created in 2016 by machine learning specialists of the Mail.Ru Group .

Currently, the application works with videos no longer than 10 seconds [3] and provides the user with 21 filters [4] [5] , among which there are filters based on the works of famous artists (Blue-Dream - Pablo Picasso ), thematic (Rio- 2016 - dedicated to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro ) and others. The application works with both finished videos and those recorded using the application itself.
Content
History
For the first time, information about the application appeared on the personal page of Anna Artamonova, vice president of Mail.ru Group on July 29, 2016 [6] . At the time of publication of the message, a version was only available for devices running on Android . According to Anna, the development of the first version of the application took only 8 days. Later, on July 31, the application appeared in the AppStore for free download [7] .
At the time of the release of the application, and to the present moment, Artisto is the only mobile application in the world that provides the possibility of artistic processing of videos based on neural network algorithms [8] . Similar functionality in the near future promise to implement the developers of the application Prisma [9] .
The application quickly gained recognition and began to be actively used by both brands (for example, the Korean automobile company Kia Motors ) and popular singers and musicians [10] .
According to App Annie, an independent analytics system, during the first two weeks on the market, the application entered the TOP- 10 most downloaded in nine countries [11] .
At the end of August 2016, an update was released in which users were able to create short looped videos (similar to the Boomerang program) and also apply optional filters to them [12] .
The latest update to the program added the ability to edit not only videos, but also individual photos.
Technology
For the first time, they started talking about transferring style from paintings by famous artists to ordinary photographs in September 2015 after the publication of Leon Gatis's article “A Neural Algorithm of Artistic Style” [13] , in which he described the algorithm in detail. Its significant drawback is the slow speed, which is measured in tens of seconds, depending on the settings of the algorithm.
In March 2016, an article was published by Russian researcher Dmitry Ulyanov, who came up with how to accelerate the generation of a stylized image by training an additional neural network generator [14] . Using this approach, you can achieve the generation of a stylized image in tens of milliseconds. 17 days after the publication of Ulyanov’s article, an article by Justin Johnsan comes out with identical ideas [15] , the only difference is in the structure of the network generator.
Artisto application was created on the basis of these open-source technologies, which were developed by Mail.Ru Group machine learning specialists in the development process to speed up video processing and improve its quality [16] .
