Title History
According to historian Alexander Bugrov, the earliest mention of Khapilovka dates back to 1693 (the river then divided the villages of Semenovskoye and Preobrazhenskoye in the lower reaches of the earth). It is often believed that the river owes its name to a certain miller nicknamed Hapilo , who owned a mill standing on the river and was known as a sorcerer; however, according to Bugrov, the image of this miller arose only as a result of the enthusiasm of 19th-century historians for folk tales [7] .
In the XVIII century, Hapilovka was dug along its entire course; Along with the Great Khapilovsky Pond, there was a smaller pond on the site of the current Zhuravlev Square . In 1800, at the behest of Paul I , who commanded to clear the banks of the Yauza River, this pond was drained, and Vvedenskaya Square arose in its place (since 1929 - Zhuravlev Square).
The dam, supporting Bolshoi Khapilovsky Pond , was located along the route of the current Honey Lane and the Ninth Rot Street . There was the last crossing of Moscow through Hapilovka; there was no bridge across the pond along the Kamer-Kollegsky shaft highway. In 1942, the pond still existed, it can be seen on German aerial photography. After its drainage, Preobrazhensky shaft and Izmailovsky shaft became, in fact, one street. In the saddle formed by its relief, the underground Khapilovka flows; A single-track Elektrozavodskaya railway line runs along the collector to the Electrozavod.
In the lower reaches of Khapilovka, in the area of Malaya Semenovskaya Street , Preobrazhenskaya Sloboda and Zhuravlev Square, the historical buildings of the Moscow outskirts of the late 19th century are still preserved. The memory of Hapilovka is stored in place names:
