Lactofen is sprayed onto leaves and is commonly used to control broad-leaved weeds in crops of soybeans , crops , potatoes and peanuts . It can be used in combination with oils or adjuvants , fertilizers and surfactants. Some mixtures contain solvents such as xylenes and cumene [2] .
Lactofen is sold in solid form or in the form of a concentrated emulsion under the trade name "Cobra" [2] .
Toxicity
Lactofen is slightly toxic to humans if swallowed or inhaled. It can cause irritation and redness of the skin, swelling, and in some cases chemical burns. It strongly irritates the mucous membrane of the eye and in high concentrations can cause irreversible damage [3] .
Lactofen is practically non-toxic for most bird species [4] . Toxicity to fish and other aquatic organisms varies widely. Low toxicity for bees [5] .
Lactofen has a very low solubility in water and therefore does not pollute surface water. It binds well to particles of the earth and then decomposes within one to seven days [4] [6] .
