Biography
In 2011, the public is presented with a project with a sound characteristic of industrial metal with a clear predominance of keyboards , low-tuned guitars, blastbeats and harsh vocals. Considering the characteristic lyrics and the gloomy stage image of the participants, the style of the group can also be attributed to gothic metal, however, the sound and character of the compositions on the example of the debut album allows us to attribute the group to other different genres. The project was named Davey Suicide. As Davy himself explains - the name is a metaphor - “Suicide” is a constant reminder that if we don’t kill ourselves, then there’s no ceiling for what we can do [1] . ” The essence of the title is also explained in a rather sarcastic manner in the interlude "Professor Asshole" from the debut album. Davey Suicide is often compared to Marilyn Manson in terms of sound and image, Davey himself calls Manson one of his inspirers, along with Eminem . The title of the song “The Hole is Where the Heart is” of the album “World Wide Suicide” is a reference to the text from Marilyn Manson's If I Was Your Vampire .
“The fundamentals of what I want to convey are second chances, self-confidence and self-development,” the frontman says. “I give listeners songs with deep meaning, how deeply they will be imbued with them - it depends only on themselves”. [2]
At the beginning of the journey, the former members of the Murderdolls Eric Griffin ( guitar ) and Ben Graves ( drums ) played in the band, but they soon left the band and Ashes (guitar, ex- Static-X ) and Draven Davidson (drums, ex-Static -X) The music video for the song “Kids of America [3] ” was filmed with Ashes and Frankie Sila (bass, ex-Static-X), but they didn’t participate in the recording of the second plate of the World Wide Suicide, instead they were replaced by a guitarist Mikey Alfero (Violent New Breed, ex-New Years Day) and bassist Brent Ashley ( Combichrist , ex-Static-X). However, after some time, these musicians left the group. Guitarist Niko Gemini (Nikolai Demidov) joined the band as a touring musician at the end of 2014 , as part of the Blood Reaconing Group's “The Reckoning Tour”, in which Davey Suicide took part. Soon, Niko was accepted as a permanent member of the group [4] , and Derek Obscura took the place of the bass player. Davy recorded the guitar and percussion parts for the first two albums on his own.
The group went on tour with many famous bands, including Static-X, Combichrist, Twiztid , Ill Nino , New Years Day, Wednesday 13 , Jeffree Star , William Control, Orgy and many others.
In the spring of 2016, the group participated in the “Juggalo Invasion Tour [5] ” with the horrorcore band Twiztid, and also for the first time in its own tour “Anti-System Revolution [6] ”. It was soon announced that the release of the band's third album, “Made From Fire [7] ”, will take place on March 24, 2017.
On August 26, 2016, the band releases a video [8] for a new single, entitled " Rise Above ".
In December 2016, Davey announced [9] on his instagram profile about launching a page on the Patreon website, where, for a monthly paid subscription, he could receive exclusive bonus content from Davey, private information and unique merch, thereby financially supporting musicians on a voluntary basis.
On January 28, 2017, the second single from the upcoming album “Made From Fire” entitled “No Angel” was released, and the day before the album became available for preorder. Also updated merch group. [ten]
On February 17, 2017, the band released a video for the song “Too Many Freaks”.
On March 24, 2017, the band released the third LP, Made From Fire. [eleven]
Standby Records Conflict
On August 10, 2016, the frontman of the group Davey posted a video on the group's YouTube channel [12] , where he asks to support the group in a difficult situation that has developed due to bad faith label Standby Records . According to Davey [13] , after concluding a contract in 2011, the label did not pay the band for the release of the EP, 1st, 2nd albums and clips, did not support the band on tours and promotion , violating all the terms of the contract, sold the rights to merch other companies without the knowledge of Davey, appropriating all the money after the transaction.
The group Davey Suicide, with the participation of a lawyer, sent the label notice of contract non-compliance and demanded compensation in the amount of $ 58,000 for the release of the first and second albums, deciding to terminate the contract with Standby Records, but the label did not react to it. After some time, despite all its illegal actions, the company put forward Davey’s baseless accusations for violating him for 2012 (which was eliminated long ago, but forgot the label), after which almost all Davey Suicide clips were removed from YouTube sent letters on behalf of the company prohibiting the management of Davey, the Internet merchandising company, BlankTV and Brian Stars using Davey Suicide materials, as well as a label trying to prevent the band from releasing new music. This happened while the band was on the Anti-System Revolution tour in spring 2016, and upon returning home, Davey received a notice that Standby Records was the first to sue him and demand to pay $ 50,000 for breach of contract. In court, the label stated that it had not earned anything from the release of the single and the albums of the group, but had suffered heavy losses. The next court session was to take place on August 3, but was postponed.
Soon after, Davey recorded a video in which he said that at the court meeting, the group’s claim was successfully satisfied and previously deleted videos began to gradually return to the group’s YouTube channel, and the official merch became available again. For the most part, Davey thanked the fans and colleagues in the music scene for their help and support in this situation, and also advised novice groups to exercise due diligence in concluding a contract with the label. The release of the album "Made from Fire" was also postponed until 2017, because the group does not exclude the possibility of concluding a contract with a new label.
