Early life
In 1910, the family moved to California. She made her film debut in 1918, signing a contract with Keystone Studios and a member of Sennett Bathing Beauties . Her brother, Thomas Ree, later also starred in films. [2]
Comedy films
She starred in the film Her Screen Idol (1918) with Ford Sterling and Louise Fazenda . Played in the film the heroine of the screen idol , which was a parody of the images matinee idol [3] .
From 1917 to 1925, she starred in more than twenty-five films, including The Clever Fashion Model (1917), Summer Girls (1918), East Lynn with Vibrations (1919), When Love is Blind (1919), Light Lover (1920), Coot (1920) and Sake Land (1920). Her death certificate mentioned that she starred in Fox Film Corporation films until 1932.
Personal life
On October 28, 1918, Rhee married Henry Page Wells. They broke up in November of that year. About two weeks after this, Ree said that Henry was a problem for her. In August 1922, Ri accused her husband of spending his entire amount of $ 800 on drugs [4] .
In August 1936, she began dating Edwin Jay Wilkinson. The date of their wedding is unknown, but it is known that they remained married until the death of the actress.
Assault
September 2, 1936 in Los Angeles , three young people invited the actress to go to their home. When she refused, they attacked her, threw her into a truck [5] and drove her to South Los Angeles [6] . There they threw her to the ground and beat her using glass bottles. Then each of the criminals raped her in turn. After that, she was cast in a semi-conscious state. It took her four hours to recover and seek help.
Later, all three suspects were detained and interrogated at the Los Angeles Police Department , where they were charged with kidnapping and assault, but denied their guilt. [5]
In January 1937, three young truck drivers appeared in court in Los Angeles, where they were charged with assaulting Ri. As a result, they were sentenced to imprisonment from one to fifty years [7] . However, in 1939, all three were released from prison.
Death
Rea was never able to recover from the attack on her and June 17, 1937 committed suicide in Los Angeles, taking poison for the ants. She was buried in the Pacific Crest Cemetery cemetery in Relondo Beach, California with her family. In the death certificate, she was listed under the name of Marvel L. Wilkinson, but nevertheless she was buried under the name of Marvel Lucille Rhee.
