Biography

Born July 25, 1904 in Yekaterinoslav. In 1925 he entered the Odessa Agricultural Institute, which he graduated in 1930. From 1930 to 1931 he worked as a special farm of the Novopoltava Agricultural Institute, from 1931 to 1932 he served as deputy director of the Uman technical college of sugar beet-growing. In 1932 he moved to Moscow, where from 1932 to 1950 he worked at the Scientific and Research Institute of Vegetable Economy . In 1950, in connection with the general situation with biological science, he moved with his family, first to Irkutsk, and then to Novosibirsk, where he spent the best and most fruitful years of his life. From 1950 to 1976 he served as director of the Institute of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry. From 1976 to 1988 he headed the laboratory of the physiology of ripening and seed germination at the Novosibirsk Scientific Center.

He died on August 12, 1988 in Novosibirsk.

Personal Life

Fyodor Reimers was married. The son of a scientist is Nikolai Reimers (1931-93) - a Soviet zoologist, ecologist, doctor of biological sciences and professor who survived his father by just 5 years.

Scientific Works

The main scientific works are devoted to the study of the physiology of the ontogenesis of cultivated plants.

  • He studied the physiological features of the stages of vernalization and photoperiodism of two- and perennial plants.
  • Developed methods for improving the germination of seeds of agricultural crops in Siberia.
