Biography
John was born on June 6, 1883 on a small farm near Jefferson, Wisconsin County as the fourth (out of ten) child of Robert Black and middle school teachers Margarita Black. Soon, the family moved to . In 1903-1905 he studied and in 1905 he graduated from , where he later began teaching algebra and geography in 1905-1907 [1] .
J. Black received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1909, a Master of Arts degree in 1910, a Ph.D. in 1918 from the University of Wisconsin [2] .
In the years 1910-1911 he taught English literature at Case Western Reserve University , in 1911-1915 at the . In 1915 he returned to the University of Wisconsin to study the economics of agriculture. In 1918, an assistant professor, in 1919 an associate professor, in 1921-1927 a full professor of rural economics and head of the department of agricultural economics at the University of Minnesota . In 1927-1956, professor of economics at Harvard University . In 1956 he retired, becoming an emeritus professor of the department Henry Lee of Harvard University [3] .
In 1949-1953 he worked in the US Department of Agriculture . In 1932 he was elected president, and since 1957 a member of the , in 1955 President of the American Economic Association . He was a member of and [4] .
J. Black died on April 12, 1960 in Boston from a heart attack [1] .
