Biography

John was born on June 6, 1883 on a small farm near Jefferson, Wisconsin County as the fourth (out of ten) child of Robert Black and middle school teachers Margarita Black. Soon, the family moved to . In 1903-1905 he studied and in 1905 he graduated from , where he later began teaching algebra and geography in 1905-1907 [1] .

J. Black received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1909, a Master of Arts degree in 1910, a Ph.D. in 1918 from the University of Wisconsin [2] .

In the years 1910-1911 he taught English literature at Case Western Reserve University , in 1911-1915 at the . In 1915 he returned to the University of Wisconsin to study the economics of agriculture.
