Burial ground of Taldy II

Taldy II burial ground is an early Iron Age burial ground in the Karkaraly district of the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan . Located 1.4 km (0.8 km west) from the village of them. K. Amanzholova ( Taldy ), 44 km from Karkaralinsk , the height of the mounds from 2 to 3.5 m, diameter from 30 to 65 m. Work on the archaeological study of the monument began in 2009 as part of the Regional program "Cultural Heritage". In 2009-2010, 7 Saka royal mounds of the Early Iron Age were investigated. Archaeological excavations were carried out under the direction of the candidate of historical sciences, archaeologist A. Beisenov (head of the department of the A. Kh. Margulan Institute of Archeology ).

Finds

The most important findings were made in the barrow No. 2 (diameter 30 m, height 2 m) and No. 5 (diameter 65 m, height 3.5 m), where it was found: 200 large gold items made in the famous Saka animal style, 1800 gold flakes, more than 21,000 small gold beads in the form of plaques and rings. Also found were 14 bronze arrowheads, 150 stone pendants (beads). Of particular interest are gold cast X-shaped belt clips, square-shaped clips, a massive plaque from a dagger’s scabbard, 3 types of flaps, overlays with opposed mountain goat heads, overlays in the form of a walking cat predator figurine, an overlay in the form of a feline predator curled into a ring , numerous pendants are rounded, in the form of cereal grains, etc. In all likelihood, leaders were buried in these mounds, rulers of Saks living in the steppes of Central Kazakhstan. Thousands of gold items belong to types of jewelry from the ceremonial costume of the Saka king. [1] Taldin mounds date back to the 7th – 6th centuries. BC e.
