Aarne Iosepovich Pung ( June 30, 1909 , Kannu , Harju district , Russian Empire - August 14, 1994 , Tallinn , Estonia ) - Soviet and Estonian biologist, specialist in animal husbandry. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Estonian SSR (1969).

Biography

In 1933 he entered the University of Tartu , which he graduated in 1938. In 1941, in connection with the beginning of the Second World War , he volunteered for the front and went through the whole war. After demobilization, in 1946 he returned to Tartu State University, where until 1949 he worked as a researcher, at the same time from 1947 to 1954 he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine. In 1954 he was elected director of this institute, he held this position until 1956. From 1956 to 1994 he worked at the Estonian Academy of Agriculture.

He lived in Tallinn, 1 Tiigi Street .

Scientific work

The main scientific works are devoted to cattle breeding. Author of over 100 scientific works and monographs on the biology of cattle breeds and farm animal breeding.

  • He studied the exterior, interior and productive qualities of Estonian red, black-motley and local cattle.
  • He developed the basics of breeding Estonian livestock breeds and studied the selection of pairs when breeding these breeds.
