The plot was inspired by Isaac Asimov’s short story “ The Arrival of the Night, ” which earlier, in 1988, had already been made into the movie “ Twilight ”; the initial sketch for the film even represented the name of the film as “Twilight” [2] . Motives also refer to I. Efremov’s novel “ The Andromeda Nebula ”.

Along with the usual (theatrical) version of the film "The Black Hole" there is also a director's, which is 220 seconds longer than the theatrical [3] .

After the release of the sequel to the film “ The Chronicles of Riddick ” (2004), an alternative name for the picture came into use - “The Chronicles of Riddick. The black hole ” [4] [5] .

Story

The spaceship The Hunter Gratzner flies through the tail of a comet , due to which it receives serious damage and loses control. The captain of the ship dies, meteorites pierce its suspended container. The co-pilot ( Carolyn Fry ) is trying to land a ship on the surface of a planet, bearing the symbol M6-117. The fall speed is too high, she decides to drop the passenger compartment, but the navigator George Owen does not allow her to do this. The ship makes a hard landing on a desert planet. The case falls apart, part of the suspended animation compartments flies away. Only 12 people survived: co-pilot Carolyn Fry, dangerous criminal Richard B. Riddick (who was taken to prison), his overseer , “blue-eyed devil” William J. Jones, Muslim pilgrims ( Imam Abu Al-Valid and his three novices, Hassan, Ali, and Suleiman), a teenager, Jack B. Budd, antique dealer Paris P. Ogilvy and two Australian settlers, miners Zach and Shazza. Owen pierced the lever through and through while falling, and he dies in agony, preventing Fry from touching himself and the lever.

Jones finds Riddick's empty container and realizes that he has escaped. Riddick suddenly attacks him from the darkness, but Jones fights off him and rivets Riddick to an iron support. Riddick, left unattended, is freed and runs away again.

People understand that the planet is constantly lit by three stars - a double system of yellow and red dwarfs and one blue giant . When the sunset of one star begins in the sky of the planet, the rise of another occurs simultaneously. There is no night here. There is no food or water on the wrecked ship, except for collectible spirits in the luggage of Paris.

A group of survivors goes into the desert in the hope of finding water, going towards the blue star (as the imam said - this is a sign of Allah ). They find a whole cemetery of bones of huge animals, then an abandoned miners' base, and in its central square there is a small rescue shuttle . Judging by the dates on the rock samples, the base was abandoned exactly 22 years ago. Fry finds the room where the mechanical model is located to calculate the position of the planets in this system. She inspects her in passing, making sure that the day always reigns on this planet.

At this time, Zak, who remained at the ship, decides to dig a grave in order to bury another survivor, whom he shot by mistake, mistaking for Riddick, who had been hiding among the wreckage all this time, but finds the entrance to the cave in the pit wall. He decides to inspect her, but suddenly something grabs his face and drags him underground. The rest run to screams and find blood-stained entrance to the cave and Riddick sitting next to him. He tries to escape, but he is knocked down by Jones, who takes off his sunglasses , which makes Riddick go blind due to the bright sun. Shazza arrived in time, shouting “Kill him before he killed everyone!” Stuns Riddick with a blow to the face.

Riddick is again connected. Fry tries to question him (“Perhaps you should have been afraid of me in other circumstances, but there is something that is much more dangerous than me”), while Jack watches the interrogation. At the request of Riddick shows them their unusual eyes, which are a silver iris without a pupil. He says that his eyes allow him to see in the dark, but the sunlight dazzles him and causes severe pain. Riddick says he got them at Butcher's Bay Prison , where no sunlight came in, and where he was operated on by a surgical prisoner for twenty menthol cigarettes. Jack begins to admire Riddick and even shaves baldly.

Fry examines the cave in which Zak disappeared and finds Zack's nibbled foot wrapped in a boot. She discovers that the cave is teeming with half-asleep monsters and barely has time to escape from them.

Jones lets Riddick go away, reassured that he no longer needs to wait for a stab in the back. People remove one of the power units from the destroyed ship and in full force go to the miners' base. Riddick states that the miners did not fly away, but all remained on the planet. Fry begins preparing the ship for flight. One of the imam’s children, Ali, sneaks into the locked hangar of the power station and stumbles upon a nest of flying monsters that kill him. The rest run to a scream, find the corpse of a boy and notice the monsters who immediately fly away into the mine in the middle of the hangar. Jones throws a light saber into the mine. It is filled with human bones. Fry hurries into the room with the model and puts it into action. In the system, in addition to the planet to which they collapsed, there are two more giant planets in orbits with a shorter and longer period of revolution. A terrible truth is revealed to people: once every 22 years, all the planets and luminaries line up in one line, on the planet for several weeks, or even months, an eclipse and pitch darkness sets in, and the monsters that live underground go to the surface. And this period can come at any time - after all, samples of rocks 22 years ago! Riddick states that the miners hid in the building of the power station with the advent of darkness, but the monsters made their way through the basement.

Fry prepares the ship for takeoff. Jones and Riddick are trying to undermine Fry's trust in each other. Jones says that Riddick can fly starships and can throw everyone and fly away from the planet alone, as he did before. Riddick reveals to Fry that Jones is not an escort , but an ordinary mercenary , and even a drug addict . Jones says that during the last escape, Riddick killed a pilot and hijacked a ship. At this time, the imam's novices burst into the room screaming. Fry goes outside and sees rings appearing in the sky, and then the disk of a huge planet that covers both suns ...

The team arrives on an SUV (due to the specifics of the planet - this is an electric car , powered, like all local appliances and structures, from solar panels) back to the wrecked ship, removes the batteries and loads them into a jeep. Unfortunately, they do not have time in time. The rings of a huge planet cover the sun. The planet descends at twilight and a many-voiced cry of creatures is heard flying out of its underground city-termite hunt. Survivors flee to the nearest locked compartment, the lagging Shazza and Riddika are attacked by flying creatures. They fall to the ground in time, and monsters fly by. Shazza again gets up and runs, but a flock of flocks takes her into the air and tears it to shreds. Following the rings, the disk of the giant planet finally covers the stars, slashing the last ray of light and the planet plunges into impenetrable night. When the light disappears, Riddick sees how the mountains in the distance collapse and monsters fly out.

People retreat into the hangar of the ship and barricade the door. They have an acetylene torch , lanterns, bottles of alcohol, and light bulbs. However, they are not safe. Hungry monsters begin to "knock on a visit", breaking through the skin with their claws. Monsters without organs of vision make scary piercing sounds to see in the dark like bats. Several critters find their way into the compartment and kill Hassan. The imam states that the eclipse will continue for a long time, because, judging by the model, the planets began to move in parallel for a long time. Without food and water, people cannot survive so much. Fry decides to leave the compartment, reload the batteries on makeshift sledges, take the power generator and fluorescent hoses and try to get to the miners' base and ship. Riddick has a crucial role to play: thanks to his ability to see in the dark , he becomes a beacon of direction. He will run a little ahead, putting a bunch of lights on his back at the same time for protection and his designation.

The team makes its way through the desert, scaring away the monsters with light. At first things are going well, but then the fuel runs out in the acetylene burner, and then one of the monsters tries to attack Jack, who is stretching to the side behind the fallen saber. Mortally frightened and not understanding anything, Paris creeps to the side, towards death. His light hose pulls and crashes the generator, the lights go out. By this time it is already known that monsters do not tolerate light at all, even dim, but go crazy with the smell of blood. In the dark, Riddick notices that despite the fresh corpse of Paris, the monsters still try to get closer to the teenager. Suddenly, the team stumbles upon their own tracks and asks Riddick why they are walking in circles. He replies that the canyon is ahead and he wanted to think what to do, since the girl is bleeding. Everyone looks at the unscathed Fry, but Riddick points to Jack, who is not scratched, and declares that Jack is by no means the guy he claims to be, but the girl whose monsters feel their periods. Jones tête-à-tête invites Riddick to kill the girl and drag the corpse behind him on a rope to distract the bastards. Riddick does not agree and offers "someone bigger" as a bait. They enter the fray. Riddick hurts Jones and leaves him in darkness; Jones becomes a gigantic monster's dinner.

The remaining ones make their way through the canyon and fall into the cemetery of skeletons ("Do you remember the cemetery? Maybe these creatures killed all life on this planet?"). Creatures furious from hunger begin to kill each other, showering the surroundings with entrails and pouring blood on people from above. Jack is attacked by one of the monsters, without even reacting to Fry, who has arrived in time with a lantern, whom she loses in attempts to drive off the monster, but Riddick rips open his stomach and gutting him. The last of the novices of the imam, the wounded Suleiman, is dragged away by a monster, who crawled along a sheer wall. At people only torches from bottles with alcohol remain. Riddick alone drags 4 power units, each weighing 35 kilograms. Suddenly it begins to rain, which extinguishes the torches; Riddick hides Fry, the Imam and Jack in a small cave, the entrance to which is closed with a stone, and he himself drags the batteries to the shuttle. He turns on the ship's systems and decides that it makes no sense to risk his life and come back for the rest, breaking his bunch of lights.

The rest begin to worry if Riddick has thrown them. They see luminescent slugs on the cave ceiling. Fry puts them in an empty bottle and sets off after Riddick. She gets to the base and sees Riddick getting ready to take off. He is impressed by this will to live and offers Fry to fly with him, leaving the rest. But Fry, remembering that once already wanted to sacrifice other people's lives for his own sake, pounced on him. Riddick puts a knife to her neck and asks if she is ready to die for them, to which she replies that she is ready. Riddick and Fry return for Imam and Jack.

On the way back, Riddick is surrounded by creatures. Wild cries come to the ship. The Imam asks Fry to fly away, but she says that she will not leave anyone here. Fry comes back and drags the wounded bloodied Riddick, with the words: "I said that I was ready to die for their sake, not you." Then they are attacked. Blood pours to the ground with raindrops. And after a second, the monster takes the girl into the dark. Riddick, despairing for the first time in the entire film, frantically shouts after her: “Not for my sake!”

The suppressed Riddick returns to the ship, where the Imam and Jack are waiting for him, and takes the engines to take-off thrust, but suddenly turns them off. (“Riddick, what are you doing?” - “You cannot fly away ... without saying goodbye”). When brave creatures surround the ship, Riddick turns on the engines at full power, and the flame burns all the creatures gathered behind the ship.

Three survivors fly away from the planet to get closer to the cosmic paths. Jack asks Riddick what to tell them when they will be asked questions about Riddick, to which he replies: "Say that Riddick is gone, he died there, on the planet."
