Xanthus , or nocturnal lizards [1] ( lat. Xantusia ), is a genus of reptiles from the family of nocturnal lizards of the Scots-like infraorder.

Sizes of the genus are small to medium in size. Viviparous. They live in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico .
The name and description of the type species and genus were published in 1859 by Spencer Fullerton Byrd . He named the clan after the naturalist Janos Xanthus [2] .
