Biography

Wills was born in 1902 in Segoville, Texas [1] . He began his career as a singer, forming in the early 1930s a quartet “The Avalon Boys”. Together with him, he appeared in a number of films as a soloist of the group, and in 1938, after his solo acting career began to develop, he disbanded a quartet.

Over the years of his acting career, Wills has created a number of memorable roles on the screen, including Mr. Neely in the musical Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), Dr. Wilkes in the western Rio Grande (1950), Uncle Bauli in the drama Giant (1956), a beekeeper in the military drama of John Wayne " Alamo " (1960) (nomination for the Oscar ) and Drago in the western " McLintok! (1963). In addition, he starred a lot on television, where he had roles in the television series Smoke from the Trunk , Alfred Hitchcock Presents , Rawhide and many others.

In 1963-64, Chill Wills performed with Walter Brennan and Ephraim Zimbalist Jr. in the election campaign of Senator Barry M. Goldwater from the Republican Party for the US presidency [2] .

Wills was a poker player and a close friend of Benny Binion, the founder of the World Series of Poker . Wills took part in the First World Series, held in 1970 in Las Vegas .

The actor has been married twice. From the first wife, Betty Chappelli, he has two children, Jill Wills (born 1939) and Will Wills (born 1942). In 1973, two years after the death of his first wife, Wills married Novadin Goodge. Their marriage lasted until the death of an actor in 1978 from cancer in Encino , California . He was buried at the memorial cemetery in Glendale . For his contribution to the film industry, the United States was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
