The murder of Özgejan Aslan ( Turkish Özgecan Aslan ) occurred on February 11, 2015 near the city of Tarsus ( Turkey ). A 19-year-old student at the Faculty of Psychology at Chag University was returning home in a minibus; driver Ahmet Suphi Altyndoken waited until the girl was left alone in the cabin, and then tried to rape her. Aslan resisted, and the man inflicted several stab wounds on her, as a result of which she died. Wanting to get rid of the traces of the crime, the criminal together with his father and acquaintance tried to burn the body, but when they did not succeed, they threw it into the river, where it was found a few days later [1] [2] .
The crime received wide resonance in Turkish society and abroad, and also caused discussions about the problem of violence against women in the country. Massive protests against incidents of this kind took place throughout Turkey [3] [4] . The President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country Ahmet Davutoglu reacted to the incident [5] .
