Biography
Joseph was born on November 5, 1885, on a small farm near Fraser, Chester County, Pennsylvania, to the family of William Harmar (died 1900) and Mary Charles (Siddal) Davis. He studied , and in 1902 he graduated . In 1902-1904 he worked as a teacher in the public schools of Pennsylvania [1] .
In 1908, he received a bachelor of arts degree, and in 1913 a doctoral degree from Harvard University [2] . He was a member Society, Society and Delta Sigma Rho Society [3] .
He began teaching as a lecturer in economics and sociology at Bowden College during 1913, and then at Harvard University as a teacher in 1913-1917 and as an assistant professor of economics in 1917-1921. As a professor in 1921-1952 and director of the Food Research Institute at Stanford University in 1937-1952. In 1952 he retired, becoming the emerit Professor of Stanford University [2] .
In 1918-1919 he was an assistant statistics at the American Commission for Delivery to London, as well as the editor of [4] . In 1924, he was a member on German Reparations. In 1955-1958 member of the Council of Economic Consultants . In 1954 he became an honorary doctor of humanities at Columbia University . Member and President in 1944 of the American Economic Association , Member and President in 1936 of the , Member and President in 1936 of the , Member of the Board of Directors of the in 1924 and in 1946-1948, a member of the [1] .
