Distribution
It occurs in the province of Saskatchewan ( Canada ) [1] .
Description
Small short-winged beetles , body length 1.9 mm. The main color is dark brown (antennae and paws yellowish brown). The body is thin and densely punctured. Antennae 11-segmented, attached at the inner edge of the eyes. Middle and hind tarsi 5-segmented (anterior 4-segmented). The species name was given in honor of the 19th century naturalist John Richardson , who at one time found the gopher Richardson ( Urocitellus richardsonii ), in the burrow of which this new species of beetles was found. Similar to the European species of beetles Atheta liturata Stephens . Active in June. The species was first described in 2016 by Canadian entomologists Jan Klimaszewski ( Jan Klimaszewski ; Laurentian Forestry Center, Ontario , Canada ) and David Larson ( David J. Larson ) [1] [2] [3] .
