Biography

Maximilian Raub was born on April 13, 1926.

The first serious success at the adult international level was in 1950, when he joined the Austrian national team and attended the World Championships in Copenhagen, where he brought two bronze medals won in the 4 × 500 meters relay and in the classification of double kayaks at a distance of 500 meters.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki - together with team-mate Herbert Wiederman , he finished third in the finals in the third and won the bronze Olympic medal (only crews from Finland and better than him were better than him Sweden). They also started here with Widerman in twos at ten kilometers, but in the decisive race they reached the finish line only fourth behind Finland, Sweden and Hungary, not reaching the prize positions.

Becoming a bronze Olympic medalist, Raub remained in the main composition of the rowing team of Austria and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1954 he performed at the world championship in the French Macon: he won the bronze medal in the relay and won the ten-kilometer race of double crews. Being one of the leaders of the Austrian national team, he successfully qualified for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne - together with the same Herbert Wiedermann, he again participated in the doubles kayak program at a distance of 1000 meters and again took bronze in the final - this time the crew passed him from the United German team and the USSR.

For outstanding sporting achievements Maximilian Raub was awarded the Badge of Merit for the Austrian Republic in silver (1967) and gold (1992).
