Biography

Occurred from the Hungarian nobles. Early lost his parents. In his youth, he was mainly engaged in the study of the Latin language and learned it to such an extent that he wrote it freely and gracefully [2] .

He graduated from the University of Pest and in 1762 arrived in Moscow , where he began to study medicine at the medical-surgical school and the Moscow military hospital; Many engaged in self-education. Soon became one of the most famous doctors, was better known as a medical practitioner, rather than as a scientist. His regular patients were curators and rectors of the university. In 1764, the Medical Board made it to doctors, in 1772 - to the headquarters doctors. In 1765 he was appointed prosector at Moscow University and a doctor at the university hospital. From 1768 he began to teach anatomy, surgery and midwifery. Engaged in the device of the university anatomical theater.

During the plague epidemic (1770-1771), along with other doctors at Moscow University, he treated patients in the most infected areas of Moscow. In 1772, he was awarded the title of protochirurgus (proto-surgeon - first surgeon), in 1784 - doctor of medicine, topic of his doctoral dissertation “Discourse on the need to know life in order to more clearly discover the inner nature of the human body” . Extraordinary Professor (1778), Ordinary Professor (1788) of Anatomy and Surgery of Moscow University . He headed the department of anatomy until 1805. In 1804 he was elected president of the Society for the Medical and Physical Sciences, founded by MH Muravyov .

He printed several speeches - all in Latin, which he had mastered perfectly. Keresturi was the first to conduct systematic corpses with students; introduced animal experiments.

Keresturi was a member of the Academy of Naturalists " Leopoldina " (from 1781).

Since 1803, suffered several strokes , which was the cause of his death.
