George Walker Crawford ( born George Walker Crawford ; December 22, 1798 , Columbia - July 27, 1872 , Richmond County, Georgia) is an American politician (Whigs). Member of the House of Representatives of the US Congress from January to March 1843, Governor of Georgia from 1843 to 1847 and the United States Secretary of War from 1849 to 1850.

Crawford graduated from New Jersey College in 1820, studied law and began his career in 1822 as a lawyer in Augusta, Georgia. He served as Georgia's Minister of Justice from 1827 to 1831 and was a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives from 1837 to 1842. After Richard W. Haber died, Crawford in 1843 took his place in the US House of Representatives, where he held office for only two months. Crawford later that year succeeded Charles James MacDonald as governor of Georgia, and was replaced in 1847 by George Townes . President Zachary Taylor named Crawford in 1849 as Minister of War, and he resigned in 1850 after Taylor's death.
Crawford died in 1872 and was buried in a cemetery in Summerville Augusta, Georgia.
