The House of Trade Unions of Ukraine , officially the Enterprise “Economic Department of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine” is the administrative building in which the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine , the headquarters of the Maidan (during the Orange Revolution ) and the Headquarters of national resistance (during the Euromaidan ) were located. The house was badly damaged by a fire during the events of February 18-20, 2014 .

The house stands on Independence Square , at the corner of Khreshchatyk Street and passing between Institutskaya and Mikhailovskaya streets. Address: 01001 Khreshchatyk , 18/2.
History
Until 1976, on the site of the house of trade unions of Ukraine was the building of the Kiev nobility assembly .
In January 1974, the 25th City Party Conference decided, following the example of Moscow , to turn Kiev into a model communist city. In this regard, organized a competition for the best project of reconstruction of the central square of Kiev. In 1975, work began on implementing the project. In the same year, construction of the eight-story House of Unions by the Kievgorstroy-4 Trust (architects Alexander Malinovsky and Alexander Komarovsky) began on the site of houses demolished on Kalinin Square, houses No. 2/16, No. 4 and No. 6/2, commissioned and funded by the Ukrainian Republican Council unions for use as an administrative building, which was completed in 1980 .
Later, an electronic clock was installed in the high tower. Each of the four split screens - a display, measuring 4.30 mx 7.20 m, is at an altitude of 57 meters and contains about 5 thousand lamps with a power of 40 watts. The dimensions of the split screens allow you to find out the exact time from a kilometer distance.
The newly built House of Unions, in accordance with the decision of the secretariat of the Ukrainian Council of Trade Unions of June 27, 1980 (Minutes No. 7) “On the Building of the House of Ukrsovprof”, was transferred to the operation of the management of the House of Unions of Ukrsovrofa.
Enterprise “Economic Management of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine”, hereinafter referred to as the Enterprise, is unitary and created by one founder - the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine.
On April 1, 1989, the Office of the House of Unions was renamed into the Department of Economic Services of Ukrsovprof, according to the Decree of the Secretariat of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions No. 5-20 dated February 8, 1989.
On September 1, 1991, the Office of the House of Unions of Ukrsovprof was renamed into the House of Unions of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine, according to the Decree of the Presidium of the FPU No. 11-7-4 of August 23, 1991.
In 1996, by the decision of the Presidium of the FPU No. P-24-14 dated 07.02.1996, the House of Unions of the FPU was renamed and reorganized into the Enterprise “Economic Department of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine” established by the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine.
In 2004, during the Orange Revolution , the house was occupied by protesters.
During Euromaidan , after the events of December 1, the House of Trade Unions was captured by the protesters, where their headquarters were established [1] .
Fire
On the night of February 19, 2014, the house almost completely burned down, and the structures between the fourth and fifth floors collapsed [2] . Finally, the fire was extinguished only at 6:55 am on February 20. [3] After neutralizing the fire, a human body was found there. [4] [5] .
Activists accuse of an arson of a building of law enforcement authorities, and security officers shifted responsibility on "Right Sector" . According to the General Directorate of the State Emergencies Service in Kiev, 41 people were rescued by employees of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergencies during a fire in the capital House of Trade Unions [6] . According to the temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada to investigate the killings on Maidan, the assault on the House of Trade Unions was carried out at the direction of the former SBU Chairman Alexander Yakimenko, his first deputy Vladimir Totsky, the head of the special operations center Alpha Oleg Prisyazhny and the head of the Anti-Terrorist Center of the SBU Andrei Merkulov. On March 27, 2014, the Revival of the House of Trade Unions Foundation was founded to renovate the building. His work is organized and supervised by the Supervisory Board. After the permission of the prosecution authorities, in the summer of 2014, the process of eliminating the consequences of the fire began. During this time, repair work has been carried out on the heating main and heat point maintenance, the room has been cleared of debris, and a large amount of emergency and reinforcing works have been completed. Window and doorways are closed to protect the room from snow, rain and wind. Fixed emergency structures, plates and nodes of the beams opened for further examination. According to the findings of the experts who examined the building, it is in a satisfactory condition and must be restored. Restoration at home while continuing. The facade was opened on May 30, 2018. Its appearance has not changed.
Features
A distinctive attraction of the house is the electronic clock on the 24-meter tower with viewing panels of 720x430 cm. Since 1980, the clock reflected the time, air temperature, date and additional information, and along with the battle, the unceasing tune “You don’t love you, Kiev My Day” was transmitted. In 2011, the watches were replaced by modern - EKTA LED companies, which already worked as a full-fledged multimedia display [8] .
