The Hercules Road (La Vía Heraclea, Heráclea or Heraklea) is a path that ran along the Iberian Peninsula, it dates from at least the 6th century. BC e. This trade was mainly carried out between the Greek colonies located on the Levant and the territories of Turdetania (province of Bética ).
Most of the Hercules Road is the future Augustow Road . In the period from 8 to 2 year BC. e. Augustow road will become the main transport route. Later, by order of the consul 122 BC. e. Wrath of Domitius Agenobarba, Domitsieva road was built.
Track
The road began from the Hellenic ports in the east of Iberia (Iberia): Akra Leuké (present Alicante ), Alonis ( Villajoyosa ) and, Hemeroscopio ( Denia ). From there, passing through the modern province of Albacete , descended in the direction of the Sierra Morena and reached the territory of Oretano (what is considered Turdetano) ( Tartessos ), the province of Bética , which roughly corresponds to the current Andalusia .
It began south of the modern cities of Ciudad Real and Albacete, so for a few days from the city of Albacete. This is the territory where the mines in Guadalquivir and Guadiana were located. Further, the path went along the Sierra Morena, probably entering the capital of Oretana, Castulo (near the current Linares), or from the east, through the city of Obulco (now called Porcuna ). After that, still heading south, reached Kart Iuba ( Cordoba ) and Spalis ( Seville ).
