Kalanov, Nikolai Alexandrovich

Born on August 9, 1956 in Kazan . From 1973 to 1978 studied at the Sevastopol Higher Naval Engineering School (specialization - mechanical engineer for the operation of nuclear installations of nuclear submarines ). From 1978 to 1981 He served in the Main Office of Space Facilities ( GUKOS ) at NIP-13 ( Ulan-Ude ) - as the head of the station of transmitting facilities.

From 1981 to 1987 in the Space Research Service of the Marine Expeditionary Work Department of the USSR Academy of Sciences . During the five years of service on the research vessel Akademik Sergey Korolev, he completed six months-long voyages (mainly across the Atlantic Ocean ), spent 4 years at sea, having covered 250,000 miles. He served as the head of the department (senior researcher) of the Mezon command and transmission facilities - he was responsible for maintaining communications with the long-term orbital stations Salyut and Mir , Soyuz spacecraft (including Soyuz T-12 , Soyuz T-13 , Salyut-7 ), Soyuz T, Soyuz TM, Progress transport ships, numerous satellites. After being transferred to Moscow, he worked in the department related to the space technology tests of the reusable space shuttle Buran , and since 1991, at the Flight Control Center (Korolev) until the reserve was released in 1993.

In 1993 he graduated from the International Ecological and Political University of Moscow with a degree in law .

He is the founder and member of the board of the Regional Public Organization " Club of Veterans of the Marine Space Fleet ."

Kalanov N.A. began collecting marine folklore while studying at the Sevastopol Higher Naval Engineering School . Since 1981, he began to publish historical articles in the magazines Sudostroenie , The Navy, The Northern Spans, Naval, and in the military naval and sea, river industry newspapers. The main topic on which he works is marine history and everything related to marine topics in the sections of lexicography and linguistics.

Kalanov N.A. the first in Russia (and in terms of volume of material in the world) published the “Collection of Proverbs and Sayings about the Sea and Sailors” (2nd edition of ISBN 978-5-903081-02-8 ). It contains about 5,000 marine proverbs and sayings, translated from 120 languages ​​of the peoples of the world, which reflect the most diverse aspects of a person’s relationship with the elements of the sea, flora and fauna.

Another important scientific work is the Dictionary of Marine Slang (2nd edition - ISBN 978-5-9906698-5-7 ). The dictionary includes about 3,000 lexical units (words and phrases) belonging to the professional language of sailors. The dictionary reveals the grammar, meaning, source of words and expressions. It is richly illustrated by examples from the works of writers-marinists. This dictionary is the first in the history of Russian vocabulary and phraseology and quite fully reflects the modern marine language.
