Joseph Koenig

Joseph Koenig ( Polish: Józef Kenig ; 1821 - 1900 ) - Polish journalist , "Patriarch of Warsaw journalism."

He served in the Warsaw court. For 30 years he was editor of the Warsaw newspaper. Of the individual books by Koenig, the most interesting are Sprawa chińsko-japońska and Dwa odczyty ( 1896 ). For 60 years, Koenig monitored the dramatic events of the Poles and published articles about this every day in his newspaper and in the Slovo. Brought up on Lessing and St. Beva , he belonged to the epigones of the “idealists” in dramatic criticism, defended classicism and romanticism , looked at the scene as a “sanctuary of art”, rebelled against cheap effects; understood, however, the new trends in the drama of Ibsen and Hauptmann .
