Notes

Comments
  1. ↑ Do not confuse the French “marin troops” with the Marine Corps. Troupes de marine is a separate military branch reflecting the traditional division of the French army into “counters” (colonial forces) and “subways” (metropolitan forces). After the collapse of the colonial empire, the troops of the colo were renamed troupes de marine for political reasons. These are parts intended for participation in hostilities outside of Europe, or prepared for quick transfer to overseas theaters of military operations. Specifically, in order to avoid this confusion, the term “marin troops” is used in professional military publications (see, for example, “Armed forces of the main capitalist states”, Military Publishing, 1988. Reform of the Ground Forces of France // Foreign Military Review. 2017, No. 5 pg. 37-42). Actually, the Marine Corps in the Armed Forces of France is called Force maritime des fusiliers marins et commandos .
