Childhood and Youth

Sidney Royel Selby the third was born in Brooklyn on May 3, 1997 ^{[1] [2]} . According to him, in his youth he was always surrounded by music. His grandfather, Sidney's guitarist “Guitar Crusher” Selby, has performed with bands such as The Drifters and The Isley Brothers ^[3] . “My father listened to Funkadelic . I go to friends, they listen to hip hop . I go to my sister, she listens to reggae . I go to my cousins, they listen to everything, ”said the rapper in an interview with ^[1] . As a child, he sang in a church choir ^[3] . According to the rapper, he was a “bad child” and did “stupid things” on the streets of Brooklyn. However, at the age of 14, he changed his worldview after receiving a gunshot wound to the thigh. “[Rana] was not serious, I spent about 30 minutes in the hospital. 2014 — Present: Career Start and Success

Desiigner began his musical career in 2014, under the pseudonym Dezolo, having released together with Phresher and song “Danny Devito” ^[5] . Soon, he changed his pseudonym to Designer Royel, who later changed to Desiigner on the advice of his sister ^[6] . On November 1, 2015, Desiigner released his first track, “Zombie Walk” ^[7] . On December 15, he released his debut single , entitled " Panda ." The composition gained little fame, after which it was heard by Kanye West. He decided to use an excerpt from it as a sample for Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2 ”from his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo . After that, the composition “Panda” became widely known ^[8] . On March 12, 2016, she hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart ^[9] , where she began to gradually rise to the top positions ^{[10] [11]} . On April 25, she climbed to the first line of the chart ^[12] , where she lasted two weeks ^[13] . Desiigner became the first New York rapper since Jay-Z , with his composition “ Empire State of Mind ” to rise to the first line of the Billboard Hot 100 ^{[13] [14]} . In total, “Panda” lasted in the top ten of the charts for 17 weeks ^{[15] [16]} and received platinum status both in the USA and in a number of other countries. In February 2016, during the presentation of The Life of Pablo on Madison Square Garden , Kanye West announced that Desiigner had signed a contract with his GOOD Music label. ^[18] In March, Desiigner performed at the South by Southwest Festival, where he introduced the new song “Pluto” ^[19] .

In an April 2016 interview with Billboard, the rapper announced the imminent release of the mixtape Trap History Month ^[20] , the name of which he soon changed to ^[21] . In May, producer Mike Dean announced that he was working with him on his debut studio album and that he would become executive producer of the album ^[22] , dubbed The Life of Desiigner ^[23] . In June, XXL magazine placed him on his annual list of the best new hip-hop artists Freshman Class ^[24] . In the same month, a title single was released from a compilation of GOOD Music's label , Cruel Winter , which was recorded by Desiigner ^[25] . Also in June, he first appeared on television, performing the song “Panda” at the 2016 ^[26] . On June 26, the rapper released the New English mixtape. He received mixed reviews from critics. ^[27] In July, the rapper released as a single the song “Tiimy Turner” ^[28] , the basis for which was the previously released freestyle performed by him ^[29] .
