Konstantin Iosifovich Beda ( September 24, 1916 - April 11, 1979 , Ottawa ) - Ukrainian linguist, literary critic. Doctor of Slavic Philology (1943), professor (1957), full member of the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society , Ukrainian Free Academy of Sciences , Canadian and American Association of Comparative Literature and other scientific institutes.

Biography

He graduated from the Faculty of Humanities at Lviv University (1939), received the title of Doctor of Slavic Philology at the University of Vienna, and worked there as a research fellow at the Department of Slavic Philology (1943-45). He continued his studies at the University of Bern (Switzerland, 1946-47). Since 1952 - Lecturer, Department of Slavic Studies, University of Ottawa; since 1953 - citizen of Canada, since 1957 - professor and head of the Slavic department of the University of Ottawa . Specialist in Slavic philology, comparative literature and the history of Ukrainian literature. Collaborated with the Ukrainian Catholic University in Rome and the Ukrainian Free University in Munich. He represented Canada and Ukrainian science at international scientific congresses. The author of more than 80 scientific papers in Ukrainian, Russian, English, Spanish, German, French. Editor of the publications “Pershiy Kobzar Shevchenko” (Ottawa, 1961), “Poesie du Quebec Contemporain” (Ottawa, 1968), “Slavs in Canada”, vols. 1-2.

He died in Ottawa on April 11, 1979 .
