For 80 cu around Euro

• creating conditions for even greater activation of Ukrainian filmmakers and film enthusiasts to shoot high-quality films and shows;
• demonstration of the opportunities and skills of the participants of the video marathon to travel across Europe at the lowest prices;
• gaining joint experience in pitching projects.

The competition was attended by 66 people ^[1] .

64 people were from such cities of Ukraine: Kiev , Kherson , Nikolaev , Lviv , Kamenetz-Podolsky ( Khmelnitsky region ), Rivne , the village of Shibalin ( Ternopil region ), Zaporozhye , Mariupol ( Donetsk region ), Lisichansk ( Lugansk region ), Korosten ( Zhytomyr area ).

Also, one participant was from St. Petersburg (Russia), and one of the Kherson participants at the time of the competition was in China.

Each team included 2 people. Of the 33 teams that applied for participation, 27 were allowed before summing up the results of the first stage.

At the expense of the organizers, 3 teams went to shoot their cinema in Europe (up to 2 participants in one team). Covered the costs of obtaining a visa, travel, housing, as well as per diem for 2 people in a team.

At the first stage, for registered participants, a master class was held on the preparation of routes for traveling around Europe at the lowest prices using the Low Cost airlines “ Wizz Air ” and “ Ryanair ” ^[5] .

Stage 1

In order to become a participant in the video marathon “For 80 cu around the Euro ”and to get an opportunity to make a film / program in Europe, the contestants had to do the following in a clear time frame (up to 23 hours 59 minutes on February 29, 2016):

• Record your own video presentation with a story on the topic “Why do I want to participate in the competition”;
• Fill out the registration form;
• Create a unique shooting route, which necessarily includes flights across Europe with low-cost airlines (master classes in route preparation were held for registered participants);
• To make a video that is similar in spirit and technical performance to the one that was supposed to be shot in Europe;
• Write an approximate script for the film, which was to be shot in 3-5 European cities.

Initially, registration and acceptance of video works, scenarios and routes were conducted until 23 hours 59 minutes on February 29, 2016, but the organizers decided to extend the registration time until 15:00 on March 2, 2016. Moreover, everyone who managed to register before the end of February 29 had privileges - when choosing the winners of stage 1 in disputed cases, they would be preferred.

Prerequisites for the script

• The presence in future work of episodes filmed in all cities that the team plans to visit according to a pre-selected route.
• The routes of the teams should be at least 3 and no more than 5 European cities (located outside the borders of Ukraine).
• In each of the European cities, teams can stay no more than 2 nights.
• The total budget of flights-relays on a route selected by the team should be in the range of 100 cu (best - 80 cu) per one team member.
• There should not be a single route in which European cities are completely repeated. If the scenarios of the city are repeated, then the script submitted earlier is approved.

Stage 2

Three teams - winners of the first stage of the competition - had to go along the route they had laid and make films the scripts of which they provided to the organizers. Then, upon returning to Ukraine, they needed to edit their films and pass them on to the organizers in preparation for the final screening.

1. Expert assessment of Dmitry Tyazhlov (Ukrainian director, cameraman, educator with 15 years of experience, one of the authors of the scandalous movie album "Open Access" (whose screenings in the regions of Ukraine were repeatedly disrupted during the time of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych ).

2. Evaluation of the work by the participants themselves (the so-called Hamburg account ). Each participant exhibited from 1 to 5 points to the work of competitors.

The organizers did not undertake a creative assessment of the work, but considered each team to fulfill all the conditions of the competition. They made a special emphasis on this, emphasizing that it is the fulfillment of the stated conditions that is decisive in the final selection of winners.

Stage 1

December 31 - March 2, 2016 - registration and selection of participants from which teams applying for a trip to Europe will be selected;

March 2-5, 2016 - selection of 3 teams that will travel to Europe

March 5, 2016 - announcement of the names of three winners of the 1st stage of the competition

Stage 2

March 5 - April 6, 2016 - preparation of documents for participants of 3 teams who will travel to Europe;

April 6-15, 2016 - trips to Europe ^[6] ;

May 21, 2016 - the final presentation of video works.

June 10-22, 2016 - announcement of the main winner of the competition

The results were announced on March 5 in one of the cinemas of the partner of the multiplex cinema network contest "Multiplex" (Kherson) ^[7] .

The winners are:

1 place. Director Artem Sholomko and civil servant Nikolai Shapoval from Kherson.

2nd place. Film makers Arthur and Ruslan Burmistrov from Kherson (Arthur stayed in China during the competition).

3rd place. Student Anastasia Galyko and volunteer Ekaterina Sulimenko from Nikolaev.

On May 21, Kherson hosted a screening of films shot in Europe and a travel show of three teams - winners of stage 1 on the square in front of the Yubileiny Concert Hall ^[8] . How the show was held can be found in the video of the organizers ^[9] . After the show, the organizers sequentially published on the competition website which team took first, second and third place ^[10] .

1st place

By the decision of the organizers of the competition, victory in the international video marathon “For $ 80 around Euro ”was awarded to the Kherson team consisting of Artem Sholomko and Nikolai Shapoval ^[11] .

During their trip, the guys spent only 199.9 euros (about 5800 UAH) per 1 person. This amount includes travel costs on the route Kherson - Lviv - Uzhgorod - Chop - Budapest - Barcelona - Warsaw - Lviv - Kherson from April 6 to April 14, 2016; accommodation in Uzhgorod, Budapest, Barcelona, ​​Warsaw; food and other costs.

As the organizers told other participants and the public, they best implemented the essence and idea of ​​the budget travel competition in Europe in their travel show “1 Day in Europe”.

2nd place

According to the decision of the organizers of the competition, the vice-champion of the international video marathon "For 80 cu around the Euro ”was a team from Nikolaev consisting of Anastasia Galyko and Ekaterina Sulimenko ^[12] .

Their film "Touching Sound" was shot from April 7 to 15 in Warsaw, Cologne, Barcelona and Wroclaw. The story of the film tells about a girl who has lost her hearing and now perceives the world around her according to old memories. And with each step taken in her journey, she gradually returns faith and hope to her life.

3rd place

By the decision of the organizers of the competition, the team of brothers Arthur and Ruslan Burmistrovy took third place in the international video marathon “For 80 cu around the Euro ” ^[13] . In their documentary film Erasing Borders, the brothers showed the beauty and grandeur of Warsaw , Barcelona and Rome .

• During the announcement of the results of the 2nd stage of the competition on May 21, one of the organizers Dmitry Kozonak said that 21 teams out of 27 incorrectly complied with the terms of the competition regarding the route. And this was a violation of one of the objectives of the competition: "the acquisition of joint experience in pitching projects."
• The organizer in the person of the PanGeo travel company took all the questions on visa opening. As a result, Schengen Spanish visas were opened for the same duration to all participants with the assistance of the Spanish Embassy in Ukraine.
• Among the participants of the 1st stage of the video marathon were the creators of the film “Google Mappers. Expedition to the Kherson Region ”, participant of the Short Film Corner section of the Cannes Film Festival , employees of the STB , 5 Channel, TRK Kiev, TV-GOLD (Zaporizhia), Scythia (Kherson) TV channels, world-class studio video clip maker “Born vision”, an international film maker, 2D animators and many students from major Ukrainian universities.

After the results of the 1st stage of the competition were announced, the article “Competition for the losers of the winners” by the journalist Ilona Polesova was published in the online publication “Vgoru” (Kherson) ^[16] . In the article, she criticized the results of the assessment of the organizers:

All night the organizers mounted the presentation of films and “searched” for the winners. The teams selected by Dmitry Tyazhlov did not fulfill all the requirements of the competition - they didn’t plan the route correctly or didn’t make it at all, they didn’t calculate the budget, they didn’t send the script for the future film. Therefore, they were removed from the pedestal immediately. For the same reasons, the main winners did not pass by the points of the participants themselves. The organizers held many master classes and worked actively with participants, explaining to them all the details of filming, script and routes. The only mystery is why the organizers allowed the teams to participate, clearly doomed to lose because of their carelessness. And why was it necessary to attract a professional director, whose work they did not use in the end, and he watched 27 films for a couple of nights.
