He became known for the pursuit of slave ships on the west coast of Africa , commanded a ship during the First Opium War .
In the years 1848-1850 he sailed the Chukchi Sea on the hydrographic ship Herald ( Eng. HMS Herald ). Discovered and named the island of Herald (1849). In 1852-1854, he led (together with E. Belcher ) an expedition sent to the area of the Canadian Arctic archipelago in search of John Franklin [3] . During the expedition, the west coast and inland areas of Fr. Prince Patrick , Northwest coast of Fr. Melville Fr. Emerald, Straits Fitzwilliam, Kellett.
In 1869-1871 he was commander in chief of the Chinese station of the British Navy.
The cape and the strait between the islands of Melville and Eglinton are named after Kellett. In 1988, the participants of the first long-term summer expedition to about. Herald called one of the peaks of the island "Mount Kellet" and presented it on the map [4]
