The China Rocket Science Technology Research Institute (中国 运载火箭 技术 研究院) ( Eng. China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology , abbr. CALT) is the leading manufacturer of space launch vehicles in China and one of the world's largest companies specializing in rocket launches. The Institute is subordinate to the larger Chinese Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation . It was established in 1957 and is headquartered in the southern suburbs of Beijing.
The institute belongs to the state, but is not in active state management. The main contribution to the Chinese space program is the production of the Changzheng rocket family. The Institute has 27,000 people and at least 13 research institutions.
