The club was formed on the initiative of the leadership of the Forward Sports School. At the same time, the Dynamo St. Petersburg women's hockey team was formed, which took part in the Russian Women's Ice Hockey Championship , and since 2015, in the LCL [2] .
In 2016, the club announced the formation of an adult male team in the VHL as part of the club system. The men's team was created on the basis of the youth team, who won the bronze medal of the MHL Championship in the 2015/2016 season , the coaching staff of the youth team led by Leonid Tambiev led a new team [3] [4] . The participation of the adult team in the VHL season was approved on July 12 by the Russian Hockey Federation [5] .
According to the results of the 2016/17 season, the Dynamo St. Petersburg system teams achieved significant success: the main team of the club in the VHL got into the playoffs of the Premier League championship and outplayed the three-time winner of the Toros HC Bratina Cup from Neftekamsk in the 1/8 finals. [6] In the Bratins quarter-finals, the blue and white played with the winner of the regular season of HC Torpedo (Ust-Kamenogorsk) and the outcome of the series was decided only in the seventh match, in which Dynamo lost away [7] . Thus, in its debut season, Dynamo St. Petersburg in the VHL became the 12th team in the regular season and stopped at the quarter-final stage. The start of the Dynamo project in the VHL in St. Petersburg was large-scale: in its first season, a young St. Petersburg team broke the record for VHL attendance in closed arenas: in the St. Petersburg Dynamo St. Petersburg derby, which was hosted by blue and white, gathered 9765 viewers. In addition, the league debutant was among the most visited hockey clubs in Europe according to the IIHF rating, taking 84th place in it and automatically became the most visited Major League club [8] .

Before the duel of the main teams, the so-called “match of friends” took place, in which coaches, leading and administrative staff of both clubs took part. According to the participants, this meeting can lay the foundation for a good tradition [12] .
