Biography
In 1946 he entered the University of Tartu , which he graduated in 1951. Being a graduate of this university, he was sent to practice at the Institute of Zoology and Botany , where, having shown the best results, he was immediately abandoned by the administration and his career began in 1947. He devoted his whole life to this institution. From 1947 to 1977 he worked as a researcher, and in 1977 he was elected director of this institute.
He died on March 18, 1985.
Scientific work
The main scientific works are devoted to evolutionary morphology and the history of the anthropogenic theriofauna.
- He characterized the secular variability as a special form of group variability.
- He showed the development of theoretical morphology.
- Developed a synthetic concept of the morphological adaptation process.
