Children of John Wesley and Ruth Adams: Edward, John, Thomas, Charles, Margaret, William and Robert [2]

Thomas was born December 29, 1873 in Baltimore , Maryland , USA, the third son of John Wesley (1850-1917) and Ruth (Haslap) Adams (1852-1925) [3] .

In 1893, Adams graduated from and enrolled at Johns Hopkins University , where in 1896 he was awarded a bachelor of arts degree, and in 1899 a doctorate [3] .

From 1899-1900, he worked as a statistician at the US Census Bureau , and from November 1900 to July 1901 he worked as an assistant treasurer in Puerto Rico . In 1901 he was appointed associate professor of political economics at the University of Wisconsin , and in 1908 he was appointed full professor of economics and statistics at the University of Wisconsin [3] .

In 1903-1908 he prepared tax laws as an expert at the Wisconsin Tax Commission. In 1908-1909 he studied female and child labor for the US Labor Office . In 1909 he taught one course in labor law and public finance at Stanford University . In the summer of 1909, he studied working conditions in Alaska. In 1910, he was head of the Department of Economics and Political Science at the University of Washington in St. Louis . In 1911-1915 he continued to work as the head of the Wisconsin Tax Commission. In 1915 he was a professor of economics at Cornell University . In 1916-1933 he was a professor of political economy at Yale University . He has been a member of the since its founding in 1907, was its secretary in 1912-1916 and president in 1923. He was vice president in 1926 and president in 1927 of the American Economic Association . Adams was director in 1921 and president of the National Bureau of Economic Research in 1928, member of the fiscal committee of the National Industrial Conference and the US Chamber of Commerce .

Adams died after a pneumonia complication on February 8, 1933 [4] .

Family

Adams married September 11, 1902 to Elizabeth Matthews (1873-1941) from Baltimore . They had two daughters, Elizabeth Noel Adams (1907–1952) and Ruth Haslup Adams (1910–2004) [2] .
