Biography

Born July 11, 1922 in Palermo, in the family of elementary school teachers. He received his secondary education in Sicily at the school named after William II ( Montreal ), later he graduated from the University of Palermo . He served as President of the Bari Court of Appeal and Attorney General of Rome [1] .

From January 17 to October 19, 1995 he was Minister of Clemency and Justice in the government of Lamberto Dini.

In May 1995, he initiated a check on the legality of the methods used by the investigation during the Clean Hands operation ; also checked the activities of the prosecutor's office of Palermo in relation to the mafia. The measures taken by the Minister of Justice were criticized by the parliamentary majority, and on October 19, 1995, the Senate, by a majority of 173 votes, voted in favor of a vote of no confidence in Mancuso, which was the first such vote in history in relation to the Minister of Justice. Later, the Constitutional Court confirmed the legality of such a procedure for removing a minister from office [2] .

From 1996 to 2002, he was a member of the Forward Italy Party faction of the Chamber of Deputies of the 13th and 14th convocations, and in 2002-2006 - in the Mixed Faction of the 14th convocation Chamber.

In 2002, the Freedom House coalition nominated Mancuso to the Constitutional Court, but when the opposition resisted, Berlusconi persuaded him to withdraw his candidacy, promising to nominate Mancuso's nephew, Mario Serio. In fact, the choice of center-right fell on , associate of the legal bureau Cesare Previti and attorney Berlusconi [3] [4] . Having severed political relations with Berlusconi and quitting the Forward Italy faction, Mancuso in September 2002 made a in parliament that the draft “ ” on reasonable suspicion had been prepared as a result of blackmail by Previty. He died on May 30, 2011 in Rome.

Personal life

He was a connoisseur of the Latin language, in which he spoke with his wife - Armanda Costa, loved music. Son - Giovanni, engaged in financial advice.
