Name Origin
The name was given in the 18th century according to the church of the Holy Martyr Pankraty located in this area (known since 1791, destroyed in 1929). According to the same church, the New Sretenskaya Sloboda lying in the north-eastern part of the Earth City was called Pankratyevskaya Sloboda [1] .
History
In the 17th century, merchants and craftsmen of various professions lived in the Pankratyev settlement. In 1653, there were 168 yards [1] .
The history of Pankratyevsky Lane is inextricably linked with the history of Sretenka . “Lane is the center for trade and purchase of ancient and rare and artistic things, since almost the entire right side of it consisted of shops where the above-mentioned things were sold,” the famous collector Aleksey Bakhrushin wrote about Pankratievsky in the book “Who collects what”. The statement of the second-hand bookkeeper Astapov has also been preserved: “Near Pankratievsky Lane there is a Pankratyevsky lane, where for a long time a variety of items have been traded, from broken furniture, rusty candlesticks to books inclusive. Here everything can be purchased both to satisfy the need, and for the whim, to the mutual pleasure of the seller and the buyer. " [2]
