History
Zhang Yuan Park belonged to the first emperor of the Ming Hong Dynasty (1328-1398). [1] In 1853, Yang Xiuqing , the military leader and actual ruler of the Taiping, whose army occupied Nanjing, settled in the park. The residence became the center of the Taiping Kingdom of Heaven. The Taiping managed to occupy a considerable territory, including several provinces, and after a long and brutal war, the uprising was crushed in 1864. [one]
Museum
In 1958, a museum was organized on this site, which gathered exhibits related to the uprising. Among the exhibits are Taiping money, weapons, military uniforms, documents and literature on the Taiping ideology, which is derived from Confucianism. The museum also demonstrates the ideals of the Taiping - the achievement of a society with modern education, gender equality, honesty in economic relations. [one]
