Personal Life
On January 18, 1781, Richard Cosway married an English artist of Italian origin, Maria Hadfield . Maria was also a musician and an education specialist for girls. She was admired by Thomas Jefferson , who condemned marrying a man almost twenty years older than her. In 1784, the Cosway family moved to Schomberg House on Pall Mall , which turned into a fashionable salon in London society. In 1791 they moved to a large house on Stratford Place .
