The Independent newspaper's Jacques Stolworthy noted the similarities between this song and Bieber’s other hit “ Love Yourself, ” which was also written by Blanco and Ed Sheeran ^[9] .

Billboard magazine included the song “Cold Water” in its list of 100 Best Songs of 2016 (No. 56 in “Billboard's 100 Best Pop Songs of 2016”) ^[20] .
