Biography
Still on a student’s bench, he published the poem Der neue Ahasver ( Jena , 1841 ) and the novel Academische Welt (Jena, 1843 ). His other works: novels (mainly historical) “ Thomas Münzer and his friends” ( German Thomas Münzer und seine Genossen , 1845 ), “ Jan Hus and his time” ( German Johannes Huss und seine Zeit , 1846 ), “ Jürgen Wullenweber ”( German: Jürgen Wullenweber , 1856 ) and others, a collection of short stories“ Primavera ”,“ Freie Lieder ”(Jena, 1847 ; 2 ed. 1849 ), in which the author's socialist tendencies appeared, and others. He actively participated in the Revolution 1848. In the last years of his life, Koehler, not without success, acted as a playwright, writing: “Bürger und Edelmann”, “König Mammon” and “Die Dithmarsen”.
