“For Faithfulness to Science” - an annual award in the field of media for the popularization of scientific achievements and support for the prestige of scientific activity. The organizer is the Ministry of Education and Science with the support of the RAS and Moscow State University . The award was announced in December 2014 and timed to the Day of Russian Science , which is celebrated on February 8. The first presentation took place in February 2015 [1] .

Description
The prize “For the fidelity of science” is “an expression of public recognition of regional and federal mass media and their individual representatives, scientists and organizers of independent projects” [2] and is awarded for his services in popularizing Russian science and supporting the prestige of the profession of a scientist. Nominations, the award procedure and the size of the award are determined annually. The winners are awarded a figurine in the form of a five-pointed golden star with an “ atomic grid” inscribed in it, a cash prize is attached to the award. The prize fund is formed from the sponsors and partners of the event. The laureate may be rewarded with the prize [1] [3] .
The selection of nominees is the responsibility of the Organizational Council , the executive body, whose composition is approved by the Ministry of Education and Science. The Organizational Council develops criteria for participation and evaluation, selects applications, formulates a list of nominees and laureates, by voting forms the Expert Council of at least 25 people, which selects the winners of the award. The Expert Council includes representatives of the Ministry, authoritative scientists, well-known popularizers of science, scientific journalists and founders of foundations supporting science [1] [2] . The participants are subject to restrictions, which are indicated in the bonus provision and published on the official website . For example, members of the current organizing committee are not allowed to participate, participants cannot be established by the Ministry of Education or financed by it by more than 50%. Applicants (individuals or legal entities) must be registered in Russia and conduct educational activities mainly in Russian. The award "For fidelity to science" was announced on December 2, 2014 by the director of the Department of Information Policy of the Ministry of Education and Science Anna Usacheva at the press conference " Reform of the RAS : a year later." It was supposed to make the award annual and to coincide with the Day of Russian Science, approved by decree of the President of Russia in 1999, so the first presentation was scheduled for February 8, 2015 [5] [6] . It was assumed that the award would encourage journalists to engage more in popularization, and by attracting specialists to work, the quality of materials would increase. Five nominations were announced at the press conference, covering television, print media, radio, online media and “new media” [6] .

The first award ceremony took place on February 10, 2015. The Organizing Council was headed by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Kuleshov , in addition to him, another 10 people were members of the Council [1] . The venue of the event was the Column Hall of the House of Unions . Theater director Konstantin Bogomolov became the director of the first solemn ceremony and festive concert. More than 200 (of the estimated 400) scientists and representatives of the scientific community from all over Russia were invited to the event [8] . The ceremony included six nominations [9] . Participants noted the excessive splendor of the organization. According to the opinion, it was more appropriate to choose a modest room, and to distribute the cost difference between the winners, increasing their monetary reward [10] .

Among the shortlisted nominees of 2015 were Health , Popular Mechanics, Science and Life, Chemistry and Life magazines, Polit.ru.ru lecture hall, Dissernet , Vert Dider project, Evgenia Timonova popularizers , Alexander Markov and others [10] . The prize fund of the first event amounted to 375 thousand rubles, together with the statuette five winners received 75 thousand rubles. In addition, the sixth permanent nomination was announced - an anti-award, which marks projects that are especially actively disseminating pseudoscientific information to a wide audience. Antipreviews and special prizes of the Ministry of Education and Science do not imply a monetary reward [1] .
The first winner of the event was Dmitry Zimin , the founder of the Dynasty Foundation. The Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov handed him a special award " For the patronage of Russian science ." Zimin, in turn, urged the minister to “help ensure that Enlightenment Day appears on the calendar of public holidays.” By the time of delivery, the Dynasty Foundation had spent a similar day in mid-November for several years organizing lectures in Moscow and other Russian cities [10] (in May of the same year, the Dynasty Foundation was recognized as a foreign agent and Zimin decided to terminate its activities [12] ).

In January 2016, the Expert Council announced the list of finalists of the II All-Russian Prize “For Fidelity to Science” . In total, the ministry registered 164 applications, mainly the participants submitted for the special award and the nomination “The best online project on science” [7] . The ceremony was held on February 8 at the Moscow International House of Music [13] . The organizing committee included Anna Usacheva, Sergey Salikhov, Nadezhda Malkina (director of the AGT communications agency that won the competition for the award), scientific journalists Olga Orlova, Alexandra Sergeeva, Alexandra Borisova and others [14] . The prize fund of the award was provided by the Alisher Usmanov Charity Fund “Art, Science and Sport” [3] . Among the applicants were a lecture hall "Arche", the festival "Eureka! Fest ”, Asya Kazantseva , Tatyana Chernigovskaya ,“ Gazeta.ru ”and“ Elements ”publications,“ Arzamas ”project, Polytechnic lecture hall and many others [14] . The “Russian Academy of Psychology” got the antipremia, they received an award at the ceremony and soon announced on the website that they were laureates of the “For the Fidelity of Science” award with a diploma signed by Livanov [15] .

The award ceremony of the III annual prize “For Fidelity to Science” was also held on February 8 at the House of Music with the support of the Usmanov Foundation [16] [3] [17] . In total, more than 160 entries were submitted. The cash prize of the winners amounted to 100 thousand rubles [18] . The program “ Battle of psychics ” received antipremia ; in addition, the National Council for Homeopathy and the Regnum news agency “for systematic propaganda of alternative climatology that denies the greenhouse effect and global warming ” became finalists [19] . Two days before the ceremony, the Ministry of Education and Science announced that in the future a new nomination could appear - for achievements in the fight against pseudoscience [20] [21] .

In September 2017, the creator of the largest “pirate” portal of scientific publications Sci-Hub Alexandra Elbakyan closed access to the resource for an audience from Russia. In her message, she criticized the scientific community and noted that her contribution was never noted. In February 2018, she turned off access again: “Sci-Hub never appears on the list of laureates or in the finalists of the [Fidelity to Science Award].” In discussions, scientists and popularizers rightly noted that Elbakyan does not qualify for the award without Russian citizenship [22] [23] [24] [25] .

Acceptance of applications for the IV prize “For the Fidelity of Science” in 2018 was extended [26] , in total, the organizers received more than 300 applications [27] . The presentation ceremony was held on February 6 in the building of the Ministry of Education and Science [28] , the awarding was held in 12 nominations, including special awards [29] . The inclusion of the communication campaign of the Memorandum on the Pseudoscience of Homeopathy in the list of award nominees in the field of the best popular science projects caused a new one wave of discussion about the dangers of homeopathy [30] . As a result, the Ministry of Education and Science confined itself to presenting the Materia Medica Holding anti-award, the patent holder for many homeopathic remedies, including anaferon and impaza [31] .

The antipremity awarded in 2018 caused a resonance. In February, the manufacturer of homeopathic remedies Materia Medica Holding promised to sue, also declaring cooperation with several faculties of Moscow State University. In March, the university, one of the organizers of the award, publicly denied this fact [32] . At the same time, in February, the National Association of Pharmaceutical Products and Medical Device Manufacturers ACF addressed Olga Vasilyeva with an open letter, in which she stood up for Materia Medica. Scientists and company representatives noted in a letter that “such events damage the image of the domestic pharmaceutical industry and impede the development of Russian science, and are also a blatant example of how the name of the Ministry is used for unfair competition in favor of foreign firms producing similar but more expensive pharmaceutical products " [33] . In 2019, the award was not awarded. In honor of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements, the Prize for the Popularization of Chemistry in 2018 was included in the list of awards [34] . Another innovation was the “CLASS Science” nomination - support for projects that popularize science at school [35] . The ceremony of the V All-Russian Prize took place on February 4 in Moscow [36] .
