He studied at the universities of Jena, Göttingen , Berlin . Since 1914 he traveled around the world, compiling geological maps of various places: he visited Italy, Switzerland, Iceland, Greenland, Mexico, Ceylon and Alaska ... In addition to the detailed descriptions of these maps, Kailhak published textbooks on practical geology ( German: Lehrbuch der Praktischen Geologie ; 1896 , translated into Russian and Spanish) and hydrogeology ( German: Lehrbuch der Grundwasser- und Quellenkunde ; 1912 ), as well as work on the description of some glacial deposits of northern Germany .
He died during the bombing of Berlin.
