History
According to legends, up to the XIX century, the Sarkandaugava tributary was called “Kanawa of punishments”: the guilt of those arrested during the “witch hunt” was checked there.
In the XVIII century, on the territory of the present Sarkandaugava there was the Duntes estate and numerous peasant farms. Two stages (in 1828 and 1861 ) are administratively incorporated into Riga. Gradually, peasants were replaced by carriers, fishermen and boatmen. After the breakdown of the first Riga park - the 2nd Tsar's Garden (another name is the garden of the Alexander Fortifications) - it becomes a place of rest for the residents of Riga.
In 1820, a charity house for the insane, the so-called "Alexander's Heights" was set up in the park; in 1862 , a hospital for nervous patients was set up in Ozoline. And nowadays a psychiatric hospital is working on Tvayka Street. In 1865, the Aldaris brewery was built .
At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, both large plants and factories, such as the Provodnik factory , as well as a significant number of small enterprises, opened and started to work in Sarkandaugava. The area is formed as a worker. The building is mainly two-story wooden houses, a small number of capital brick buildings lined up along Tilta Street.
The first 9-storey buildings in Riga were built on Viestura Avenue, brick was the building material.
The first trolleybus route in Riga was laid through the Sarkandaugava microdistrict: Central Market - Sarkandaugava - Mezhapark (after the electrification of the Zemitana - Skulte railway line was completed, the route was divided into two different routes: No. 2 Sarkandaugava - Saules Darzes and No. 3 Central Market - Sarkandaugawa. 1st trolley park.
