Biography

Born in 1932 in Grozny, in the family of lawyer of legal advice in Grozny, Mukhtar Esenbayev from the Kumyk sala-uzdensky Tokayevs [1] [2] . In 1943, Mukhtar Esembayev was arrested by the NKVD and sentenced to 5 years in prison after torture. Mother - Chechen Merzoyeva Mespah worked as head of the State Health Administration of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic .

In 1944, Waha was deported . To feed his family he had to start working. He worked as an excavator, carpenter, hammerman, blacksmith.

After work, he and his friends went to the reading room. In the magazine Ogonek he came across an article about the USSR champion and world record holder in weightlifting Yuri Duganov . This article marked the beginning of Esembayev’s passion for weightlifting. Rod had to make himself, good at that time he worked as a blacksmith. Then he was 15 years old. In 1948, the team, which included Esembayev and his friends, became the champion of the Dzhambul region .

His sports career gave grounds for some loosening. There was an opportunity to go outside the village of Chulak-Tau , which he, as a special settler , had no right to leave. Because of his explosive nature, he often found himself in situations from which, if he had not been a famous athlete, he would not have been able to extricate himself. Before major competitions, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Kazakh SSR, General Nikolaev, gave a telegram to the Chulak-Tau special commandant - “Urgently send Esembayev ...”.

Esembayev's sporting results grew rapidly. In 1954 he became the champion of Kazakhstan and Central Asia, then several times confirmed his achievement. At competitions in 1955, he was already showing results at the level of All-Union records: press - 155 kg, jerk - 135 kg, push - 175 kg (All-Union records: press - 152.5 kg, jerk - 140 kg, push - 176.5 kg ). Because of his status as an “enemy of the people,” these results were not officially recorded. Esembayev was included in the national team of the USSR, however, he and his friend Uvais Akhtaev had constant problems with going to competitions. Twice they were taken off the train as they headed to the competition. This happened, for example, when they were going to go to Moscow to prepare for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne .

In 1956, he won the Alma-Ata Championship with the result: a bench press - 155 kg, a jerk - 130 kg, a push - 165 kg. Thus, he complied with the standard Master of Sports of the USSR. There were no problems with the assignment of titles, since the attitude towards special settlers had softened by that time. Due to nationality I could not take part in a major international tournament in China in 1955. Due to food poisoning, he could not take part in the sports program of the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow in 1957, although he was a favorite of these competitions.

He was personally acquainted with the famous Soviet weightlifters Alexei Medvedev , Yuri Vlasov , Leonid Zhabotinsky , Vasily Alekseyev .

After returning from the deportation, he worked in senior positions at the Sports Committee of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR and DSO “Harvest”. He was a teacher at the Grozny Oil Institute and coach. After the start of the first Chechen war, he lost all his property and moved to Moscow, where old weightlifting friends helped settle down for the first time. In Moscow, he continued to work as a coach, as long as his health allowed. Last years spent in oblivion, seriously ill.
