Barr (canton)

Barr ( fr. Canton de Barr ) - the abolished canton in the north-east of France , in the Alsace region , department of the Lower Rhine , district of Celeste-Ersten . History

The canton was created in 1793 [2] .

From 1940 to 1945, the territory was occupied by Nazi Germany .

Before the administrative reform of 2015, the canton included 16 communes. According to the law of May 17, 2013 and the decree of February 18, 2014, the number of cantons in the department of Lower Rhine decreased from 44 to 23. The new territorial division of the departments into cantons entered into force during the 2015 elections. After the reform, the canton was abolished [3] [4] .
