Concerto for bassoon and orchestra, P. 236

Concerto for bassoon and orchestra in F Major (the so-called first ) , P. 236 is a composition by Franz Danzi , one of his five concerts for bassoon and orchestra and one of three written in this key (is less famous than the so-called second , P . 237 ). The first known performance took place on January 20, 1805 in Munich , and was soloed by Franz Lang (who played in the ) [1] . From the artist of that time, the concert required great virtuosity [2] [1] . His manuscript was kept at FΓΌrstenberg in Donaueschingen (Mus. Ms. 308) until the dissolution of most of its collections at the end of the 20th century.

Composition

The concert consists of three parts.

  • I. Allegro.
  • II. Andantino.
  • III. Allegretto non troppo.

The third part is a variation on the theme of the famous Austrian folk song A Schisserl und a Reindl , also used by Weber in his Variations for Viola and Orchestra, J. 49 (1806).
