The discography of Van Halen , an American rock band, consists of twelve studio albums, two live albums, two compilations, three video albums and fifty-six singles.

The group signed a contract with Warner Bros. Records in 1977 and the following year released the Van Halen album. Between 1979 and 1982, the group released albums every year and toured with increasing commercial and critical acclaim, becoming one of the most successful and influential groups in the world. In 1984, Van Halen released their 1984 album, which reached number two on the Billboard 200 and contained the only hit that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 , “Jump.” After a tour in support of the album, vocalist David Lee Roth left the band due to creative and personal disagreements with guitarist Eddie Van Halen .
David Lee Roth was replaced by Sammy Hagar , a former Montrose singer and then successful solo artist. With him, the band released the 5150 album in March 1986, which for the first time in Van Halen’s history topped the Billboard 200 . The next three studio albums with Hagar, OU812 (1988), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991) and Balance (1995) were also successful. In 1996, Hagar left Van Halen in conditions of particular tension with other members of the group.
Roth returned for a short while and recorded two songs with the group in 1996 for Best of Volume I , but Van Halen eventually settled on Gary Cheron, vocalist for Extreme Boston. Cheroni’s only release with Van Halen was Van Halen III (1998), which received mixed reviews from critics and was the only Van Halen album to fail to achieve platinum status under the RIAA . The band's latest release for Warner Bros. Records became the compilation of The Best of Both Worlds , which included three new songs with Hagar. In 2011, the band left the label and signed a contract with Interscope Records. As of 2015, the group has sold more than 95 million albums worldwide, including more than 56000000 albums in the USA and has the highest number of hits No. 1 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks Billboard . In the 1980s, they also had the most hits on the Billboard Hot 100 than any other hard rock or heavy metal band.
