Biography
He participated in the national war against Napoleon ; in 1815 he tried to establish constitutional rule in Spain , for which he was arrested.
Having received freedom in 1819, he took part in the rebellious plans of Count Abosbal , commandant of the city of Cadiz , and was again subjected to imprisonment, from which Riego was released only in 1820 , proclaiming the constitution of 1812 .
Quiroga was elected deputy from Galicia to the Cortes ( 1821 ), and then governor of this province. He represented the left-liberal party of exaltados . In 1822, participation in one duel forced Quiroga to resign, but the following year, during the invasion of the French army , Quiroga was appointed general of the division operating in A Coruña , and remained in this post until he was convinced of the complete impossibility of defending the cause of the liberals, after which he retired to England , and then to South America .
Amnesty, published on behalf of the young Isabella II in 1833 , allowed Quiroga to return to the fatherland.
Quiroga was a hero of the liberals of the 1810-1820s and an idol of the Decembrists ; he is mentioned in Pushkin ’s message “P. S. Pushchin. ”
