Biography
He entered the Order of Benedictines in 1696, and was ordained a priest on March 24, 1702 . He was abbot of the Monte Cassino Monastery, later Archbishop of Corfu from November 22, 1723 to July 30, 1727, and Bishop of Brescia from July 30, 1727 . He was elevated to the cardinal priests in pectore on December 9, 1726 , by Pope Benedict XIII . He lived mostly in Rome , as the Librarian of the Vatican Library and the prefect of the Holy Congregation of the Index since 1740 .
Member of the French Academy of Inscriptions and Fine Literature (1750) [4] .
Proceedings
His works: Primordia Corcyrae (Brescia, 1725 , 2nd ed. 1738 ), Specimen variae literaturae (Br., 1739 ), Pauli II PM vita (Rome, 1740 ). There are many collections of his letters. In his work appeared the works of Ephraim the Syrian in Greek, Syriac and Latin (Rome, 1732 - 1746 ), which he later translated. Especially important for acquaintance with his work by himself were the Commentarii der rebus pertinentibus ad A. M. Quirinum (Br., 1749 , 1754 , 1756 ).
