Fleming Crater ( lat. Fleming ) is a large ancient impact crater in the northern hemisphere of the far side of the Moon . The name was given in honor of the British bacteriologist Alexander Fleming (1881–1955) and the Scottish astronomer Williamina Fleming (1857–1911); approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1970. The formation of the crater belongs to the nectar period [1] .

Crater Description
The immediate neighbors of the crater are the Hertz Crater in the west-south-west; Chan Han Crater in the northeast; Lobachevsky crater in the south-south-east and Al-Khorezmi crater in the south-south-west [3] . The selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater are , diameter 126.4 km [4] , depth 2.9 km [1]
Fleming Crater has a polygonal shape and is significantly destroyed over a long time of its existence. The shaft is smoothed, along the entire perimeter marked by craters of various sizes. The inner slope of the shaft with smoothed remains of a terrace-like structure. The shaft height above the surrounding area reaches 1520 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 11350 km³ [1] . The bottom of the bowl is relatively flat, dotted with small craters, with individual short ridges and hills, in the center of the bowl is a low ridge stretching from south to north, and a noticeable bowl-shaped crater is located in the southeast of the latter.
Before receiving its own name in 1970 it was called “Crater 203” [5] .
