History

In 1953, China and Vietnam recognized the need to create air links between countries. The building of the first airport terminal with the main functions of 975 meters was built. In 1958, the construction of a new airport began. Only 4 years later, the construction of the runway with a length of 2400 meters and a width of 60 meters was completed. The airport was built to receive IL-18 and MiG-19 aircraft . The terminal, consisting of 3 buildings with a total area of 3405 square meters, was ready to serve up to 300 passengers at a time. The terminal was expanded in the 1980s, and was later used as a freight terminal. In those days, there were 3 domestic flights from the airport - to Kunming , Guangzhou , Beijing , and 1 international - to Hanoi .

In 1989, a major modernization of the runway was made to receive MD-82 aircraft. In 1990, a new lane was opened and the number of flights from a dozen per week increased to 70 per week. In 1998, the new T1 terminal building was put into operation. After the airport tripled the estimated passenger traffic load, the newest T2 terminal was built, located on the opposite side of the runway, and the old one was decommissioned. [2]
