Concept Series

W5 European League is a dedicated series of tournaments that is not included in the overall W5 Grand Prix draw. However, athletes participating in the European series also receive W5 rating points and are eligible to qualify for W5 titles.

The W5 European League events, like all W5 tournaments, are not only sporty, but also secular . These are cultural events aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and promoting an active life position, which can be achieved by participating in the fight cards of top fighters who have wide influence and popularity in their countries. One of the goals of the League is also to identify new names from among young and promising athletes.

The tournaments of the series are held under the general motto “Good luck accompanies the brave” (eng. “Fortune favors the brave”), and also have a common rating grid. Each event takes place on the territory of the gambling houses “ Rebuy Stars ”, being an open event where anyone can attend. The exception is the redeemed VIP area.

In total, in 2016, 4 European W5 series tournaments are scheduled in two countries: Croatia and Slovakia .

First Series Tournament

The first tournament of the series was held on June 4th in Zagreb , Croatia [2] [3] [4] . It was featured on the Croatian Sports Television (SPTV) , which is owned by the Croatian Olympic Committee . In the framework of the tournament in Zagreb , the W5 European champion belt was won between the most famous Croatian fighter Agronom Preten and the representative of Romania Bogdan Nastas. Preten won [5] [6] by unanimous decision on the basis of five rounds. Initially, Agran Preten was supposed to face Miran Fabian , but he refused to fight a few weeks before the fight [7] [8] .

Second Tournament

The second tournament [10] of the W5 European League was held on June 18 in the Slovakian Prievidze [11] , that is, two weeks after the premiere event [12] [13] [14] [15] .

An interesting fact is that due to the low ceiling in the casino room where the tournament was held, a special ring had to be made, which was almost 60 cm lower than usual. This was done for security reasons, as the growth of some athletes-fighters reached two meters. In the main duel of the evening, fighter Vladimir Idrani [16] , whose father first began to develop kickboxing as a sport in Slovakia, and the famous Dutch kickboxer Darryl Sikhtman, fought in Slovakia. The fight took place in the category up to 81 kg.

Also at the tournament in Prievidze, the famous young Russian kickboxer Vladislav “Orlovsky diamond” Tuinov [17] suffered a second defeat in his professional career. [18] [19] At the end of the extra round by a split decision, the victory was awarded to his rival from Slovakia, Milan Pales [20] .
