History
The Cross of Honor of the Armed Forces was established by royal decree of January 30, 2012 on the proposal of the Commander of the Norwegian Armed Forces. The cross was established by analogy with the previously established Honor Crosses of the Police and Civil Defense .
The first recipient of the Cross of Honor on April 24, 2012 was Gunnar Syonsteby - a veteran of World War II , the only owner of the Norwegian Military Cross with three swords .
Regulation
The Cross of Honor of the Armed Forces is awarded by the Minister of Defense for various kinds of differences in the Armed Forces. In particular, the reason for awarding can be a demonstration of personal skills by a candidate and marked differences in the protection of society. In addition, the Cross of Honor is awarded as a reward for academic knowledge and personal qualities that formed the basis for evaluating other actions, or were a role model. The Cross of Honor can be awarded for acts for which, by virtue of their statutes, no other awards can be given.
The Cross of Honor of the Armed Forces is awarded to both Norwegians and foreign citizens.
